Ref  TF5    Medieval Magical Ring

A high carat gold 'charm' or talismanic ring of Medieval date, circa 1400. The bezel is set with its original pyramid cabochon sapphire surrounded by magical symbols in Black Letter script. By virtue of the legend engraved upon it and the use of the sapphire, the ring was expected to protect the wearer from harm. Sapphire was a gem worn as protection against the evil eye, plague and pestilence. In medieval times the faith imposed in these magical rings was absolute. The ring is size O [US 7] and can be sized, and the head of the ring measures 1/3 of an inch by 1/4 of an inch. There is a dent and an old repair to reverse, but the ring remains in very wearable condition six centuries later. Believe in magic.
